I spent a great amount of time today with a local friend who is a believer. I asked her how foreign belivers screw up the most, in order to avoid this. Here was her answer:
There are two types of foreigners:
The one who throws us in the fire,
And the one who jumps in the fire, crying “follow me!”
The most I will have to give up here in this country is my residency. This friend has just talked to her father for the first time in a year, has difficulty making friends because she is so open, has sacrificed money and jobs, and has to watch her mother take a lot of heat for her decision. And yet, she still has joy. She’s jumped in the fire and found that it won’t burn.

Wow. Those are hard words. I love that you’re there and that you get to know such a wonderful, honest, full of light friend. I’m so grateful for both of you and continue to be challenged and sharpened by you both.
